your screen time, under the clock
The first thing the home screen tells you is how long you've been on the phone today. Not an app you open — just quietly there.
foyer replaces your Android home screen with a calm, plain-text list of your apps — and a private assistant you simply tell what to do.
free · open source · no ads · nothing leaves your phone
this is the whole home screen. that's the point.
instead of hunting for icons, you type (or say) what you want. foyer figures out the steps and runs them. try it below — it's a live demo, nothing touches your phone:
…and this is what foyer does in response:

The first thing the home screen tells you is how long you've been on the phone today. Not an app you open — just quietly there.

Give instagram twenty minutes a day. When they're spent, foyer pauses the launch and asks. One conscious tap buys five more.
A notification nudges you when the budget runs out mid-scroll.

The drawer is a text list with an A–Z rail. Search opens the keyboard by itself; aliases you teach ("insta") rank first.

Three fonts, four accents, five background tones, true black to cream. Every pairing keeps its contrast; there is no wallpaper circus.
Digital, bold, a rotating dial, or plain hands. Cycle the home screen clock from settings, or straight from the home menu.

Foyer ships no model. Paste a MediaPipe .task link or tap a suggestion, or choose a .task file already on your phone. Qwen 2.5 downloads with no account at all, and runs locally, forever.
I built foyer because my home screen had become a casino floor: forty coloured icons, each engineered to be tapped. I wanted the room you pass through on the way out, not the room you get stuck in.
Then the assistant question came up, and every answer on the market was a microphone wired to someone's server. That felt wrong for the most personal screen you own. So foyer's assistant is a small open model that lives entirely on your phone — you download it once, from whoever you trust, and nothing you say ever leaves the device.
The whole launcher is GPL-3.0 on GitHub. Read every line; that's the point.

No. The model runs on your phone, the app index lives on your phone, and there is no server to send anything to. Put it in airplane mode and ask again — everything still works.
Any MediaPipe .task model. The settings page fills a known-good link with one tap: Qwen 2.5 downloads with no account; Gemma 3 needs a free Hugging Face license click and a read token. You can paste any URL you trust instead.
The launcher itself is small and runs no background services. The model you pick takes 0.5–1.6 GB of storage and uses the processor only in the moment you ask it something.
Yes — free as in GPL-3.0. No tiers, no subscription, no unlocks. The entire source is on GitHub, and reading it is encouraged.
From GitHub today — releases carry the signed APK. Play Store and F-Droid listings are planned; the page will say so the day they exist.
